Identify the substrate
Concrete, carbon steel, galvanized steel and previously painted surfaces require different assessment and preparation. Unknown coatings may need compatibility testing.
Remove what should not remain
Oil, salts, dust, loose rust, weak concrete and poorly bonded paint can defeat adhesion. The preparation method should match the specified system and site constraints.
Measure conditions
Surface temperature, air temperature, relative humidity, dew point and concrete moisture can affect application. Readings should be considered against the manufacturer’s limits.
Treat edges and interruptions
Welds, sharp edges, bolts, cracks, joints and penetrations need deliberate detailing. Broad-field application cannot compensate for missed details.
